Your mission:

 

The Tax Accountant (German Market) supports the Accounting Supervisor with VAT accounting and fiscal compliance for Epson VAT registrations in Germany and other relevant European jurisdictions. In addition, the role is involved in general accounting and the continuous improvement of fiscal processes within Epson Germany.

 

You will be part of a small, friendly finance team that works closely together, supports each other in daytoday work, and values open communication, cooperation and shared responsibility.

 

What you will do:

 

  • Prepare and file VAT returns, VAT sales listings and Intrastat reports for the local company in all relevant locations, including arranging timely and accurate VAT payments and performing monthly VAT balance account reconciliations.
  • Prepare foreign VAT refund claims (8th EU Directive).
  • Actively acquire and maintain uptodate knowledge of local VAT and fiscal requirements, liaising with tax authorities on regulatory changes and with external VAT consultants on fiscal training and the implementation of new guidelines in the ERP system and fiscal reporting.
  • Support the European VAT Helpdesk by working closely with local Finance teams, ensuring system alignment and effective information sharing across Europe.
  • Prepare information for external audits and tax authority reviews, maintain compliance with JSOX requirements, submit VAT payable (excluding income tax), annual declarations, and support the presentation of statutory accounts.
  • Assess whether gifts, company events and other expenses qualify as gifts from a tax perspective (§37b EStG), ensure auditsafe documentation is in place, and prepare for correct taxation and accounting treatment.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance of electronic invoicing (einvoicing) processes for Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR), including managing document flows between SAP and SDI and resolving discrepancies or refusals.
  • Manage the archiving and retention of AP and AR documentation in line with regulatory requirements and internal company standards.
  • Assist the Manager Finance in ensuring ongoing compliance with European and German accounting and tax policies and legislation.
  • Support the maintenance and development of the company’s internal control framework and coordinate internal and external audits.
  • Advise the Manager Finance on fiscal and regulatory changes, contributing to the continuous optimisation of accounting services through automation, innovation and process improvements.
  • Act as a key user for SAP Finance and Accounting, resolving fiscal accounting issues and participating in SAP system changes and enhancements.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and recommend adjustments to financial practices to maintain compliance.

 

What we ask for:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • Proven accounting experience, including working as a Fiscal / Tax Accountant in a complex, multicompany European environment, with responsibility for the German market.
  • Strong experience with Excel and SAP (or another ERP system).
  • Good understanding of product and service flows and their link to VAT compliance.
  • Experience with VAT process implementation is an advantage.
  • Fluent German (written and spoken) is mandatory; English is required for cooperation within a European environment.
  • Solid knowledge of German tax laws and regulatory requirements.
